Most phone-makers are guilty of releasing new handsets that either have little variation in the design or the features. That's fine and dandy for devices which have proved to be very successful. Plus, there's only this much an engineer can do to cram the components inside a tiny chassis. The Nokia C6, announced on April 13, is such an example. It resembles the 5230 minus a QWERTY keyboard and the N97 less the angled display. ...
he good: Improved performance; lovely new display and an improved design; adds a ton of sorely needed features, both by itself and through the iOS 4 update.
The bad: Multitasking entails some trade-offs; home screen folders are limited to 12 apps; AT&T reception continues to be spotty.
The bottom line: With iPhone 4, Apple again shows that it's a powerful player in the smartphone wars. It won't be for everyone, and AT&T remains a sticking point, but the handset's striking design, loaded feature set, and satisfying performance make it the best iPhone yet.
Today, as expected, Steve Jobs announced that Apple would offer free rubber "bumpers" to anyone who bought an iPhone 4 in order to fix the problem caused by the antenna's design flaw. However, Jobs did not promise a hardware fix which would alleviate the problem without marring the phone's aesthetic.
"We're not perfect," Jobs told reporters. "Phones aren't perfect either," adding, "but we want to make all of our users happy."
The free offer is available through Sept. 30, and a full refund will be issued to those who already bought the $29 case. The deal will appear on Apple's website "late next week," and if the supply of bumpers runs out, Apple will offer "a choice of cases," presumably all in the $29-or-less price range.
