IMF grants Sri Lanka $2.6bn loan

The International Monetary Fund has authorised a $2.6bn (£1.6bn) give to help Sri Lanka defy the orbicular economic crisis and rebuild war-torn regions.

The prototypal $322m tranche of the 20-month give is available immediately, with the rest person to quarterly reviews.

Britain and the US abstained from the vote, citing helper concerns during the government's past conflict against Dravidian Tiger rebels.

Colombo says the money will be utilised to start the country's "healing process".

Sri Lanka's Enterprise Minister, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, said the money would clear for post-war recollection work in the northerly and easterly of the island - areas previously dominated by the rebels.

"We have completely blasted digit of the poorest terrorist outfits in the world and it is instance to start the reconciling and healing impact in our country," Mr Yapa told Reuters programme authority on Friday.

Humanitarian concerns

The give comes digit months after the government crushed the Dravidian Tiger rebels, ending Sri Lanka's taste 37-year subject war.

The conflict has claimed up to 100,000 lives and mitt some 300,000 civilians displaced in the northerly of the country.

British Financial Secretary author Timms said it was "not the correct instance for the programme".

In a letter to a primary parliamentary group, Mr Timms said the UK desired to "secure long-term peace and prosperity" for Sri Lanka finished equalisation between its communities.
