Umpire dies in cricket accident

A cricket judge has died after existence impact on the nous by the ball during a match.

Alcwyn Jenkins, 70, was umpiring a association correct between Swansea and Llangennech at the St Helen's ground in Swansea on Saturday.

Neil Hobbs, honorary chair of the South Cambria Cricket Association, said it was a depressing accident.

He said Mr Jenkins would be sorely missed by the cricket accord in southward Wales.

"I've umpired with Alcwyn - enthusiastic guy. He was substantially reputable throughout the association and everybody knew Alcwyn," said Mr Hobbs.

"He's umpired for the prizewinning conception of 25 years. He also does lowly association matches.

"Everybody belike in southward Cambria knows Alcwyn through cricket. It's a very very depressing period and I feel compassionate for his children."

A spokesperson for Morriston Hospital in Swansea said the injuries were conformable with existence impact on the nous with a cricket ball.
